United Bank for Africa has mobilised thousands of employees across 20 African countries for its UBA wellness initiative “Jogging to Bond,” coinciding with the 60th birthday of Group Managing Director Oliver Alawuba
United Bank for Africa Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, employee wellbeing and community development by mobilising thousands of employees across its operations in 20 African countries for the latest edition of its flagship wellness initiative, Jogging to Bond.
The event, held under the theme The Power Within U, coincided with the 60th birthday of the bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Oliver Alawuba, who chose to celebrate the milestone in the company of staff and colleagues.
A major highlight was a coordinated environmental clean-up exercise carried out simultaneously across UBA’s markets, from Lagos to Accra, Nairobi, Dakar and other cities.
Employees took to streets and public spaces to clean their surroundings, demonstrating the bank’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Speaking during the event, Alawuba emphasised the importance of wellness, teamwork and social responsibility.

“There is no place I would rather be on my birthday than here, surrounded by the incredible people who make UBA what it is today,” he said.
In Lagos, the activities included spinning bike sessions, fitness challenges, relaxation therapies and an exercise station, with participants also receiving exclusive discounts.
UBA Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Alero Ladipo said the programme reflected the bank’s holistic approach to employee welfare and sustainable development.
“At UBA, our people are at the heart of everything we do,” she noted.
This UBA wellness initiative forms part of the bank’s broader Employee Value Proposition and Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, reinforcing its position as a responsible corporate citizen across Africa.
