The Board of Trustees of Wigwe University has revealed the devastating news of the passing of its founder, Dr Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizi, in a tragic helicopter accident on Friday, February 9, 2024, in the United States of America.
Recall that the late Access Holdings boss, with other six passengers, were involved in the fatal accident on their way to watch the 2024 Super Bowl LVIII.
The university extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly challenging time.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the board, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, and sighted by Freelanews, Dr Wigwe’s unwavering commitment to education as a catalyst for Africa’s future advancement served as a beacon of inspiration to many.

Prof. Ajogwu assured stakeholders including prospective students, faculty, and staff, that though the loss of Dr Wigwe, his wife, and son is deeply mourned, Wigwe University remains committed to realizing Dr Wigwe’s dreams and aspirations for the institution.
“The foundation laid by Dr Wigwe is robust, and the university is resolute in its determination to honour his memory by continuing to build a world-class educational institution.”

The Eurocopter EC 130 crashed near Nipton, the outer reaches of the Mojave Desert Preserve, east of the 15 Freeway, around 10 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration said. There was reportedly rainy weather at the time.
The helicopter is registered to a Burbank-area tour company called Orbic Air, NBC reported.
