The YouTube outage triggered a surge in complaints worldwide, with users reporting blank homepages and missing video recommendations.
In a statement posted on X, YouTube said, “If you’re having trouble accessing YouTube right now, you’re not alone — our teams are looking into this,” directing users to a support page for updates.
The company later confirmed that “an issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube, including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids.”
YouTube added that the homepage had been restored but warned that engineers were still working on a full fix.
Tracking service Down Detector reported more than 300,000 user complaints at the height of the disruption.
The volume of reports began to decline after peaking at about 0100 GMT.
During the most intense phase of the outage, visitors to the website encountered a message inviting them to return later, underscoring the scale of the disruption.
YouTube, owned by Google, remains the world’s largest video-sharing platform, with more than 2.5 billion monthly active users.
