The recent passing of Dr. Onaolapo Soleye marks the departure of a remarkable man, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Nigeria.

As an alumnus of the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Dr. Soleye served as a beacon of inspiration and mentorship to countless individuals, including Senator Gbenga Daniel.

The senator fondly recalled Dr. Soleye’s role as a great leader and mentor, emphasizing the profound influence he had on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The late statesman’s illustrious career included serving as the Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State and later as the Minister for Finance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In these roles, he distinguished himself as a prudent financial manager and a first-class economic administrator, applying his expertise for the betterment of Nigeria. His commitment to the country’s economic development was unwavering, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s financial landscape.

Senator Daniel, in his tribute, highlighted the personal loss he feels, describing Dr. Soleye not just as a mentor but as a dear friend and confidant. The senator expressed gratitude for the unconditional support he received from Dr. Soleye during challenging times, a testament to the compassionate and generous nature of the departed leader.

In extending condolences, Senator Gbenga Daniel acknowledged the pain felt by Dr. Soleye’s family, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Matemilola, and former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who shared a close bond with Dr. Soleye.

The senator also offered solace to the sons and daughters of Owu Kingdom and Egbaland, emphasizing that though the times are painful, the legacy of good deeds and forthrightness that Dr. Soleye left behind will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him.

“I am consoled by the legacy of good deeds and forthrightness that Dr. Soleye left behind,” the Aare Ajibosin of Owu Kingdom wrote.
