Led by His Excellency, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, the delegation included prominent figures such as former Senate President and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Ahmed Lawan, Senator Col Abdulaziz Musa Yar adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, Hon Jimi Benson, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Hon Abdullahi Mamudu, Chairman of the House Committee on the Army, Hon Makki Abubakar, Chairman of the House Committee on Police, and Prof Abubakar Sulaiman.

The session at the DCAF was a collaborative effort to equip these lawmakers with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective oversight of Nigeria’s security sector. The importance of understanding security sector governance cannot be overstated, especially in a nation facing various security challenges.

Anne Bennett, Head of the Security Sector Advisory Division (SSAD), welcomed the lawmakers and emphasized the critical role they play in ensuring the nation’s safety.

She highlighted the significance of a well-governed security sector and the need for comprehensive legislative frameworks to address emerging threats.

The training session covered a wide range of topics, including best practices in security sector governance, oversight mechanisms, intelligence gathering, and international cooperation.

Participants engaged in interactive discussions, sharing insights and experiences that would contribute to crafting effective policies back home.

During the session, His Excellency, Senator Gbenga Daniel, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to learn from global experts in security sector governance. He underscored the commitment of the Nigerian government to strengthen its security apparatus and ensure the safety of its citizens.

The lawmakers also had the privilege of interacting with international experts and other seasoned professionals in the field of security sector governance.
