The former Atiku campaign DG in Kano, leaves PDP for APC over unresolved party issues and recent political appointments

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]reelanews exclusively reports that all plans are set for Dr Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, former Director-General of Atiku Abubakar’s Kano campaign, to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr Dangwani served as Chief of Staff and Commissioner of Water Resources under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He had long been an influential figure in PDP’s Kano chapter, leading a faction known as Restoration.

This camp, formed in response to dissatisfaction within Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement, represented party members who felt disillusioned by perceived injustices and a lack of primary elections within the PDP.

Dr Dangwani’s shift from PDP to APC reflects growing internal tensions over these unresolved issues.

Insiders reveal that his departure was also motivated by unfulfilled promises made by party stakeholders.

According to sources close to the situation, assurances of greater support and representation for his allies were not realised, leading him to seek political alignment elsewhere.

However, the politician exclusively informed Freelanews that his departure from the opposition party is connected with his zeal to work with the president for a better Nigeria.

“I’m not leaving PDP just because of the breach of agreement made with Mal Shekarau, Sen Bello Hayatu Gwarzo and Yusuf Ado Kibiya, but to join Mr. President in saving Nigeria from the current hardship it is facing,” he stated.

In addition to his political achievements, Dr Dangwani has an extensive background in healthcare. He held senior positions, including Chief Medical Director (CMD) at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital and Imam Wali Hospital.

As Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospital Management Board, he played a pivotal role in advancing healthcare initiatives within the state.

A dedicated party member and ally of PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Dr Dangwani served as the Campaign Director-General for Atiku in Kano during both the 2019 and 2023 elections.

His decision to shift to APC is expected to significantly impact Kano’s political landscape, given his considerable influence and support base in the region.

Political observers see this move as a strategic repositioning that could reshape alliances within Kano’s political circles.
