This thrilling semi-final clash sets up a highly anticipated Iberian Derby against Portugal, who had previously overcome hosts Germany 2-1.

The Spaniards wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing into an early lead. Nico Williams opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, swiftly followed by Mikel Merino in the 25th, both expertly assisted by the creative Mikel Oyarzabal.

The momentum firmly remained with Spain, and 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal further extended their lead, converting from the penalty spot in the 54th minute to make it 3-0.

Just a minute later, Pedri added a fourth goal after another sublime move involving Williams, seemingly putting Spain in complete control of the semi-final.

Despite the seemingly insurmountable deficit, France mounted a spirited comeback. Kylian Mbappé reduced the arrears with a penalty in the 59th minute.

However, Yamal, showcasing his burgeoning talent, responded almost immediately with his second of the night in the 67th minute, restoring Spain’s four-goal advantage at 5-1.

What followed was a late French surge that sent shockwaves through the stadium. Rayan Cherki struck in the 79th minute, and an unfortunate own goal from Dani Vivian in the 84th further narrowed the gap.

Substitute Randal Kolo Muani then added a dramatic fourth in stoppage time, assisted by Cherki, but it proved to be too little, too late for Didier Deschamps’ side, as Spain held on for a memorable win.

Commenting on the extraordinary match, Spain’s Mikel Merino remarked, “We didn’t expect that when we were 5-1 up.

But in the elite, you can’t take anything for granted. We’re proud of this group. It’s another final and we’ll fight for another title.”

Meanwhile, in Munich on Wednesday, Portugal staged their own impressive comeback to defeat Germany 2-1.

Florian Wirtz had given the hosts the lead in the 48th minute, but Francisco Conceicao levelled for Portugal in the 63rd before the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo secured the decisive winner five minutes later in the 68th minute.

Following their respective victories, Portugal and Spain will now meet in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday, 8th June, at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
