Ogun people praise tinubu over naval base and seaport

Ogun people commend President Tinubu for approving a naval base, dockyard, and Olokola deep-seaport, boosting security and economic growth

Former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a naval base and dockyard in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, calling the project a major asset for national security and local economic growth.

Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, also commended the president’s support for reviving the Olokola deep-seaport project, noting its potential to positively impact the state’s economy.

He made the remarks during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Mid-term Community Assessment and Review Tour in Abigi, Ogun Waterside LGA, an event aimed at evaluating progress, engaging constituents, and inspecting ongoing projects.

The lawmaker highlighted that the federal government was improving local accessibility via the new Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway route alignment, describing Tinubu’s initiatives as part of a broader strategy to empower citizens through infrastructure and development projects.

Daniel stated that the naval base and dockyard in Ode-Omi would generate employment opportunities and stimulate infrastructure growth in the area.

He emphasized that the local community remains deeply grateful and intends to support the president in the 2027 general elections.

He explained:

“The expanse of land has been allocated to the Nigerian Navy for over 50 years without development. Now, with God’s grace, my role as Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy has enabled us to realize this strategic initiative. We owe gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the project.”

The senator also reflected on previous development plans, noting that the Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) in Ode-Omi was established to train personnel for a proposed refinery and deep-seaport project.

He assured that federal support would revitalize GIPI, complementing state efforts.

According to Daniel, the naval base is envisioned as a “naval city” with phased development:

1. Phase One: Accommodation for senior and junior officers, administrative buildings, perimeter fencing, and security infrastructure.
2. Phase Two: A naval secondary school.
3. Phase Three: A naval hospital.

He underscored that federal funding will ensure the project achieves its full potential, enhancing both security and economic opportunities for the community.

Daniel concluded by urging citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration for a second term, asserting that the president’s programs reflect a genuine commitment to national development.

“The President means well for Nigeria, and well-meaning citizens support his administration,” Daniel added.
