Lagos Environmental Taskforce arrests 75 suspects during late-night Coastal Road clean-up raid; officer injured, drugs recovered

No fewer than 75 individuals were arrested during a late-night enforcement operation along the Coastal Road corridor in Lagos.

The operation, carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, forms part of intensified efforts to flush out criminal elements and restore order in identified security black spots across the state.

According to a statement shared on the official Facebook page of Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the exercise commenced around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

A total of 75 suspects comprising 68 males and seven females were apprehended during the raid. Authorities also recovered substances suspected to be illicit drugs at the scene.

However, the operation turned violent when hoodlums allegedly attacked one of the taskforce officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, who sustained a serious head injury and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The agency condemned the attack, warning that assaults on law enforcement personnel performing lawful duties would not be tolerated. It confirmed that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the clean-up and enforcement drive statewide, stating that similar operations would continue as part of broader measures to curb criminal activities, address environmental violations, and strengthen public safety in Lagos.
