FG responds as NAPTIP moves to probe resurfaced tweets linked to Simi

NAPTIP has responded to public calls for investigation after old tweets linked to Simi resurfaced. The agency urged anyone with credible evidence to come forward

The Federal Government has reacted to the controversy surrounding Nigerian singer Simi following the resurfacing of old social media posts linked to her time working at her mother’s daycare.

The posts, reportedly made over a decade ago, recently went viral and sparked public debate.

Some Nigerians called for authorities to investigate the claims referenced in the tweets.

In response, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) released an official statement on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

The agency said it is committed to investigating credible reports of alleged misconduct in daycare settings.

“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible reports,” the statement read.

NAPTIP urged individuals with direct knowledge, factual evidence, or those personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts to come forward confidentially.

The agency’s response generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users demanded immediate action, others questioned the process and called for due diligence.

Several commenters insisted that authorities should thoroughly examine the daycare’s past operations. Others cautioned against trial by social media and urged a fair investigation.

Amid the backlash, Simi addressed the issue in a statement shared on her X page on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

The singer explained that she was 23 at the time the tweets were posted.

She said she had been assisting at her mother’s daycare while pursuing her music career.

According to her, she often tweeted about daily experiences, including humorous moments involving children.

The situation continues to generate public debate, as authorities emphasise the need for verified evidence before any legal steps are taken.
