Tinubu celebrates Kola Oyewo at 80, praising his lasting impact on Nigerian theatre, film, and cultural heritage
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday congratulated renowned filmmaker, actor, and retired Theatre Arts lecturer, Kola Oyewo, on his 80th birthday, describing him as a national treasure and a towering figure in Nigerian culture.

In a statement shared by the Presidency, Tinubu commended Oyewo’s enduring contributions to theatre, film, and academia, noting that his work has profoundly shaped Nigeria’s creative and cultural landscape.
The President described the veteran thespian as a distinguished cultural icon whose influence spans generations of artistes and scholars.
“Oyewo is a veteran thespian and a distinguished cultural icon whose enduring contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s theatre, film, and cultural productions have left an indelible mark,” Tinubu said.
He also highlighted Oyewo’s role in preserving Nigeria’s heritage through his work on stage, screen, and in the classroom, emphasising his dedication to excellence and discipline.
“From the stage to the screen and the classroom, Oyewo’s work reflects a deep commitment to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage,” the President added.
Tinubu further noted that the celebrant’s remarkable career underscores the powerful role of the arts in education, national identity, and social cohesion, describing his journey as both inspiring and impactful.
The Tinubu celebrates Kola Oyewo message also extended goodwill wishes, with the President praying for continued good health, peace, and fulfilment for the octogenarian.

Oyewo, a retired lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Yoruba theatre, with a legacy that continues to inspire emerging talents across Nigeria’s creative industry.
