Governor Ododo launches Kogi airport project in Zariagi to boost investment, jobs, and economic growth across the state
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, has launched the Kogi airport project in Zariagi on the outskirts of Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, marking the commencement of construction of a multi-billion-naira international airport recently handed over to contractors for execution.

The groundbreaking ceremony was represented by Victor Atuluku, Commissioner for Transportation in Kogi State, who described the initiative as a people-centred and economically transformative development.
He said the project would reposition Kogi State as a major hub for investment, trade, and industrial expansion.
At the project site in Zariagi, Victor Atuluku stated that the Kogi airport project was designed to unlock the state’s vast economic potential.
He added that the facility would stimulate both local and international investment, create jobs across multiple sectors, and strengthen the socio-economic profile of the state in a powerful way.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule.
He pledged the deployment of adequate human and material resources to ensure timely completion while maintaining global standards and engineering quality.
According to the governor, the airport will attract multinational corporations, high-net-worth investors, and global business interests.
He also noted that artisans and small-scale enterprises would benefit significantly from the value chain opportunities linked to the Kogi airport project.
The project has been awarded to leading construction firms, including China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Construction Company.
Both firms have been tasked with delivering the airport to international specifications and strict timelines.
Governor Ododo also urged the contractors to maintain professionalism, speed, and quality in execution.
He stressed that the project represents a long-term economic lifeline for Kogi State and must be delivered without compromise.
He further called on host communities in Zariagi and residents across the state to support the construction process.
According to him, cooperation will ensure smooth implementation and prevent disruptions to the Kogi airport project.
Reassuring investors, the governor said his administration remains committed to ensuring security of lives and property.
He noted that a safe environment remains essential for sustained economic development and investor confidence.
The official handover of the project marks a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure agenda.
The initiative is expected to expand connectivity and strengthen Kogi State’s position within Nigeria’s emerging economic corridors.
