Lagos Court Assault Case Arraignment as man is charged for allegedly attacking his landlady in Badagry and pleads not guilty

The Police on Wednesday arraigned Temitope Elegbede, a 47-year-old man, before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, over his alleged involvement in a Lagos Court Assault Case Arraignment linked to an attack on his landlady.

Elegbede, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Edet Ekpo, told the court that the incident occurred on 7 April at about 9.20 a.m. on Panusa Ajobuwe Street, Ilogbo, Badagry.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant assaulted his landlady, Oluwabunmi Otokiti, by grabbing her neck inside her residence, an action described as violent and disturbing.

He further told the court that the defendant’s conduct created tension in the area and was capable of causing a breach of peace before he was later arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Following the plea, Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum. The court ruled that the surety must be a recognised community leader.
