Eghosa killing investigation deepens as Met Police charge a second teenager over the fatal shooting of the 14-year-old in Woolwich

The Metropolitan Police Service has charged a second teenager in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old British-Nigerian boy Eghosa Ogbebor in Woolwich, south-east London.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police said the latest suspect, a 15-year-old boy whose identity has been withheld for legal reasons, was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, and later charged with murder.

The teenager is scheduled to appear before Barkingside Youth Court as investigations into the devastating incident continue.

Police said the investigation began on Thursday, April 2, after officers were called to Lord Warwick Street in Woolwich following reports of a shooting at about 3:40 pm.

Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene and found Eghosa with severe gunshot injuries.

Despite emergency efforts to save him, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police stated that specially trained officers continue to support Eghosa’s family following the tragic killing.

The new charge marks the second murder prosecution linked to the case.

According to the police, a 16-year-old boy from Romford had earlier been charged with murder on Friday, April 10. The suspect was remanded in custody after appearing before Thames Magistrates’ Court on April 11.

The force also disclosed that several other suspects arrested during the investigation have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police said a 19-year-old man was arrested in Woolwich on suspicion of murder on Saturday, April 4, while a 46-year-old man was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both individuals were later released on bail.

The statement further noted that two boys aged 14 and 16, alongside an 18-year-old man arrested on Friday, April 3, in connection with the Eghosa killing, have also been bailed pending ongoing investigations.

The Metropolitan Police said enquiries into the fatal shooting remain active as detectives continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
