A late-night fire has destroyed six houses and several shops at Kofar Wambai Market in Kano State, leaving parts of the busy commercial area badly affected.
The fire reportedly broke out late on Friday night, September 4, 2026, triggering an emergency response as firefighters were deployed from multiple stations to contain the blaze.
The extent of the destruction included six houses and shops within the market area, according to a report on the incident.
Firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading further as the emergency response continued at the scene.
Kofar Wambai Market is one of Kano’s established trading areas, with businesses dealing in a range of goods and commodities. The dense nature of parts of the market can make access difficult for emergency responders during major fire incidents.
The latest outbreak has once again highlighted the vulnerability of busy commercial areas to devastating fires, particularly where closely packed buildings and shops can allow flames to spread quickly.
