A Nigerian woman who attended a wedding interrupted by Dutch police in the Netherlands has claimed the action was motivated by race rather than noise levels.
In a video circulating on social media, the woman explained that guests were ordered out of the hall in the middle of the ceremony. She rejected the official reason of noise complaints, pointing out that a Moroccan group was holding a party on an upper floor of the same building and was not similarly disrupted.
“It wasn’t because of the noise but because we are Black,” she stated, alleging selective enforcement by the officers.
The original incident, which took place over the weekend, saw Dutch police arrive at the venue following reports of excessive noise from the Nigerian celebration. Videos showed officers directing guests, many dressed in traditional attire, to leave the premises.
Earlier reports attributed the interruption solely to neighbour complaints about loud music typical of Nigerian weddings. However, the woman’s account has introduced allegations of racial bias.
Reactions online have been divided. Some users supported her claim and questioned why one gathering was targeted while another continued. Others dismissed the racism allegation, insisting that Nigerian events are often louder and that local noise regulations apply equally.
As of the latest updates, Dutch police have not issued a public response addressing the specific claim of racial discrimination or confirming details about the Moroccan party in the same hall. The matter remains based on social media accounts from those present.
