Afrobeats star Davido has described Nigerians as survivors who have learned to adapt to almost every challenge, while insisting that what the country needs most is the right leaders.
In an interview with Elevate Africa, the singer reflected on the resilience and global influence of Nigerians.
“I tell people, if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he said.
Davido noted that Nigerians have built thriving communities and businesses across the world, with Nigerian restaurants and networks found in many countries. He pointed to this presence as evidence of the people’s strength and resourcefulness.
However, he identified leadership as the missing element holding the nation back.
“I just feel the only thing missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” Davido stated.
He emphasised that Nigeria cannot move forward without capable leadership, describing it as the most important requirement for progress.
The comments, made in late 2024, continue to resonate as discussions around national leadership and development remain central in public discourse.
