Held from October 7 to 9, the FUNAAB edition featured music performances, dance, games and interactive activities, culminating in a concert that placed student talent at the heart of the campus experience.
Sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited, the event provided a platform for emerging artistes to perform before audiences, compete for cash prizes and gain recognition beyond their university communities.
The competition also delivered notable results at the regional finals. Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, known professionally as T.Boss, representing Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), took first place.
SEGZY of FUNAAB finished second, while Alabi David, known as The Vyine, from the University of Ibadan, secured third place.
Biola Aransiola, Brand Manager at BIGI, said the initiative was designed to help young performers express themselves and gain opportunities to develop their talents.
“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses.
What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further.
Seeing them step up and earn their moment in the spotlight is what makes this initiative worthwhile,” Aransiola said.
Soundcity OnTour 2026 is expanding to 20 institutions, following its debut across 10 campuses in 2023.
The programme combines music competitions, dance challenges, interactive experiences and live concerts to engage young audiences and create opportunities for emerging performers.
For Rite Foods Limited, the initiative also provides a platform to connect its brands with young Nigerians through entertainment and youth culture.
The company’s portfolio includes BIGI Carbonated Soft Drinks, Fearless Energy Drink, BIGI Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink, sausage products and LIDA malt.
Following the conclusion of the FUNAAB edition, Soundcity OnTour is scheduled to move to Kwara State University, where more student performers will have the opportunity to compete and showcase their musical abilities.
