Insurance brokers under the aegis of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Lagos Area Committee (LAC) have been asked to imbibe the habit of effective time management focus, create a healthy work-life and mental balance, among others, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

These were the submission of two Speakers at the recently held two-day retreat of the flagship insurance body, which held at the Insurance House in Yaba, Lagos. Speaking on the topic ‘Optimising Efficiency and Growth’ with emphasis on time management, Ayokunle Olubunmi, Head, Financial Institutions Ratings Agusto & Co., explained to participants that time management is central to personal effectiveness and optimising efficiency. Explaining that time management requires balancing career, family and personal priorities, he added that is also important for organisations to achieve sustained growth.

He added, “Your ability to work, produce, and earn money is your most valuable commodity. And this value of course comes from you. It is who you are and who you have become through the knowledge and skills you have attained that is your greatest and most valuable asset. And of course, how you use that asset determines the quality of life you will experience.”

Advising brokers on how to best utilize their time, he urged them to focus on more than being effective to being efficient, avoid overworking, over-committing and stop emphasising perfection instead of excellence.

Mr. Abideen Musa, Executive Director of NSIA Insurance who was also a speaker at the retreat spoke on the topic, ‘Benefits of Team Spirit, Work-Life and Mental Balance in The Midst of A Pandemic.’ Enumerating the benefits of maintaining work-life and mental balance which includes fostering creativity and learning, blending complementary strengths and building trusts, etc., he urged participants to always aim to reach a balance of the two variables especially during the pandemic.

“While it may seem overrated or impossible, maintaining balance throughout our lives is a cornerstone for overall well-being. Balance prevents stress, and we all know stress causes adverse health effects and leads to 75-90% of all physician visits,” he explained.

While ealier welcoming guests and speakers to the special occasion, Chairman of the Lagos Area Committee, Rotimi Olukorede thanked the leadership of the NCRIB for its consistent support to the Lagos Area Committee. He explained that the two-day training is important for the fact that the year is a unique one that requires a unique approach and preparation towards the actualization of set goals and objectives.
“2021 is still young and there is a paramount need to prepare our members to face the year headlong to achieve their set objectives and attain our collective aspirations. That is why the topics and areas of concentration have been carefully selected. We have seasoned speakers and facilitators lined up to do justice to them,” he said.
