Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, condemns the killings in Kwara and Benue states and urges security agencies to take action against gunmen
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has condemned the recent attacks in Kwara and Benue States, which reportedly claimed the lives of over a hundred Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas expressed deep concern over the persistent loss of innocent lives across the country.
He urged security agencies to rise to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, stressing that insecurity had continued to undermine public confidence in the state.
Although figures surrounding the Kwara attack remain conflicting, the Speaker noted that suspected terrorists were believed to have attacked Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on Tuesday night.
He also referenced a separate incident in Abande community, Mbaikyor Ward, Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, where bandits reportedly killed scores of residents.
“The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, condemns in strong terms the latest killings in Kwara and Benue States, which have reportedly left over a hundred persons dead,” the statement read.
Abbas lamented that innocent citizens continued to lose their lives in questionable circumstances and called for more decisive and coordinated action by security agencies in collaboration with local communities.
He described the socio-economic impact of insecurity as immeasurable, noting that sustained violence had disrupted livelihoods, displaced communities and deepened humanitarian challenges.
The Speaker assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would continue to work closely with President Bola Tinubu to ensure that security agencies receive the necessary resources to confront criminal elements across the country.
“Both the government and the governed must collaborate to face our common enemies,” Abbas said.
