Awujale selection delay Ogun State appeal was made on Sunday during a sendforth ceremony for the first batch of Hajj pilgrims departing from Gateway International Airport in Iperu.
The cleric described the absence of a traditional ruler in Ijebuland as a sensitive issue that could affect cultural and religious traditions, especially during major festivals.
He urged the governor to act swiftly, noting that kingmakers had already completed their responsibilities in the selection process.
Ayanbadejo also appealed to other top state officials and stakeholders to intervene to ensure the timely emergence of a new Awujale.
He referenced the historical importance of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Ijebu Ode, which have been observed since 1875, highlighting the symbolic role of the Awujale in providing sacrificial rams for the festival.
The cleric said his appeal was a plea for peace, unity, and continuity of tradition, rather than a demand.
His comments echo earlier calls from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which also urged the state government to lift suspension on the selection process.
The Ogun State Government had suspended the selection exercise in January 2025, citing petitions and security concerns, marking the second time the process has been halted since the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona.
