A rainstorm in Bauchi’s Bara community kills two people, including a child, and destroys several homes and property worth millions
A heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds has claimed the lives of two persons and destroyed several houses and property in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the tragic event occurred on Tuesday following a severe downpour accompanied by a windstorm that swept through parts of the community.
“Preliminary reports indicate that on June 10, 2026, Kirfi Local Government Area experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, 4-year-old,” the statement read.
The police said the rainstorm also destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Officers from the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters were deployed to the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and maintain order.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Kirfi Local Government Area over the disaster.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and comfort for the bereaved family.
Authorities assured residents of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to respond to disasters and strengthen emergency preparedness across the state.

Residents were further urged to remain vigilant during the rainy season and report emergencies promptly to security agencies.
