Four suspects have been arrested over the Ido-Ayegunle killings in Osun State, a step hailed by the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle towards justice

The Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle in Obokun Local Government Area, Oba Timileyin Ajayi, announced on Monday the arrest of four suspects linked to the killing of villagers in the community, describing the development as a significant step towards justice.

The arrests follow violent attacks that occurred on June 15, 2025, which left multiple residents dead, including Engineer Agboola Sunday, Kingsley Nwagbana, Rasak Adegoke, and Olayinka Sodiq.

The assailants reportedly used guns, knives, and cutlasses, with some victims allegedly mutilated and others burned alive.

Oba Ajayi said the suspects were remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre for 30 days by an Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo, following a request from the police.

Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba issued the order pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

“The lives of rural communities matter. The lives of Ido-Ayegunle people matter. Let justice speak for the dead, protect the living and restore peace to our land,” the monarch said, calling for thorough investigations, accountability, and assurance of safety for residents.

Ajayi stressed that the community is seeking justice, not revenge, highlighting the repeated attacks by neighbouring Esa-Oke and asserting the community’s right to its ancestral land.

He described the victims as ordinary, peaceful workers, including a 65-year-old investor establishing a poultry farm and a bricklayer involved in local projects.

“Most of those murdered were workers who came simply to work,” Ajayi said.

The Olojudo assured residents that peace would be restored, saying the case has been adjourned to February 22, 2026, pending further legal guidance.

Oba Ajayi’s statement also appealed to security agencies, government authorities, and the international community to intervene and ensure lasting peace in the area, reinforcing the importance of protecting rural communities.
