Davido defamation lawsuit threat emerges as Lagos law firm demands apology and ₦1bn damages over alleged harassment and cyberbullying claims
Lagos-based law firm Punuka Attorneys and Solicitors has issued a pre-action notice to award-winning music star David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over allegations of harassment, threats to life, cyberbullying and defamation against one of its partners, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah.

The notice, dated February 24, 2026, was addressed to Adeleke and signed by Associate Decency Nkume and Partner Nnamdi Oragwu on behalf of the firm, formally notifying the singer of their client’s intention to commence legal proceedings at the Lagos State High Court.
According to the letter, the dispute arose during proceedings in Suit No: LD/1587PMC/2024, David Adeleke v. Sophia Momodu, heard on February 12, 2026, where Mrs Enedah appeared as counsel to Ms Sophia Momodu in an ongoing custody matter.
The firm alleged that Adeleke conducted himself aggressively during the court session and became verbally abusive towards the lawyer, prompting intervention to prevent disruption of proceedings.
Punuka Attorneys further claimed that the presiding court directed the musician to issue an apology in open court, a directive the firm alleged was not obeyed.
The situation allegedly escalated beyond the courtroom, with the law firm accusing Adeleke and social media accounts linked to him of publishing posts that exposed Mrs Enedah to online harassment and threats.
Among statements cited in the notice were social media remarks allegedly describing the lawyer as “the worst lawyer ever,” which the firm characterised as malicious and damaging to professional reputation.
The firm stated that following the publications, its client received abusive messages, threatening calls and safety concerns affecting both her and members of her family.
Describing the development as serious professional intimidation, the lawyers emphasised that legal practitioners must be able to perform their duties without harassment or public ridicule, particularly in sensitive cases involving the welfare of a minor.
As part of its demands, the firm requested an immediate cessation of commentary relating to the pending case, a public withdrawal of the alleged defamatory statements and an unreserved apology.
Mrs Enedah is also seeking damages totalling ₦1 billion for alleged reputational harm, emotional distress and threats arising from the incident.
The notice warned that failure to comply within seven days of receipt would result in formal legal action without further correspondence.
The Davido defamation lawsuit threat follows ongoing custody and child support proceedings between Adeleke and Ms Momodu, a dispute that has attracted sustained public attention in recent years.
Legal analysts say the controversy has reignited debate over professional conduct, freedom of expression and the limits of public commentary on matters pending before the courts.
