In a post that drew significant attention online, Rubens alleged that after attending a meditation event in Europe, Chopra gave her his phone number and urged her to meet later that night.
She wrote that she felt alarmed and chose not to go, describing the moment as a “wake up call”.
Chopra responded with a statement expressing sadness over abuse cases more broadly while firmly rejecting any suggestion of wrongdoing.
“I want to be clear: I was never involved in, nor did I participate in, any criminal or exploitative conduct,” Chopra said. He added that any contact he had was “limited and unrelated to abusive activity”.
Chopra acknowledged that past email exchanges had resurfaced and conceded that they reflected “poor judgment in tone”, saying he regretted how they read in the present context.
He also stated that his focus remains on supporting accountability, prevention, and efforts that protect and support survivors.
