Dele Momodu made the remarks in a post shared on X on Monday, where he assessed the evolving political landscape and the likely dynamics of the next presidential race.
2027 election outlook framed the contest as primarily a two-horse race between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that other political movements may struggle to match their influence and reach.
Momodu, a former presidential candidate, also urged the African Democratic Congress to rethink its political strategy, calling for a shift towards a more modern and inclusive approach that bridges traditional political actors with technocrats and emerging voices.
He argued that Nigeria’s political environment requires urgent recalibration, stressing the need for national reconciliation, reorientation and reconstruction amid what he described as growing tensions and instability.
Momodu referenced Nigeria’s founding political figures, including Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, stating that their legacy of ideological engagement had been replaced by what he called increasingly destructive political practices.
He warned that the current trajectory of political conduct risks deepening national divisions, describing the situation as one that demands immediate corrective action.
ADC chieftain further emphasised the importance of rebuilding bridges between the North and South, calling for leadership that promotes unity and reduces ethnic and religious rivalry.
His comments have added fresh intensity to ongoing discussions about the 2027 election cycle, particularly as political alliances and strategies begin to take shape ahead of the contest.
