The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed deadly clashes between the Chobo and Bachaman communities.

The directive was announced on Sunday night in a statement issued in Yola by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Humeashi Wonosikou.
The statement said the decision followed escalating violence and repeated breaches of peace in several communities within Lamurde.
“Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Wonosikou said.
The governor stated that the government considered the disturbances unacceptable and had directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri warned that individuals or groups violating the directive would face arrest and prosecution under the law.
“The curfew is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. Security agencies have been directed to enforce the restriction and maintain law and order,” the statement added.
Residents were urged to comply fully with the directive and support security agencies with credible information to help restore peace.
The curfew marks the fourth time in less than six months that the Adamawa State Government has imposed restrictions in Lamurde due to the prolonged communal conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities.
Earlier reports indicated that at least two people were killed before the curfew was announced.
Local sources later revealed that four additional deaths occurred after Bachaman youths reportedly mobilised to defend their community following attacks.
Witnesses said retaliatory assaults continued on Sunday in several Chobo villages after Bachaman youths allegedly invaded the area.
The spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the crisis earlier on Sunday but said the police were still compiling details of the casualties.
The protracted communal conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities has claimed more than 30 lives in recent months, with women reportedly among the victims.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri appealed to residents of Lamurde Local Government Area to cooperate with security agencies to restore calm and ensure peaceful coexistence.
