Floyd Mayweather Pro Boxing return confirmed as unbeaten former champion plans comeback after exhibition bout with Mike Tyson
Former multi-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced a professional comeback, confirming plans to return to sanctioned boxing following an upcoming exhibition bout with Mike Tyson this spring.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., 48, retired from professional boxing in 2017 with an unblemished 50-0 record. Despite stepping away from official competition, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has remained active in a series of high-profile exhibition contests.
“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” Floyd Mayweather Jr. said in a statement to AFP.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. added that from the upcoming Mike Tyson event to the planned professional fight thereafter, no competitor would surpass the commercial scale of his events.
A first professional bout is tentatively scheduled for this summer, with the opponent yet to be announced. Further details are expected in the coming weeks.
Nicknamed “Money”, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was once recognised as the world’s highest-paid athlete, reportedly earning $300 million in 2015.
At his peak, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was widely regarded as boxing’s pound-for-pound king, dominating the welterweight division for more than a decade with a calculated and technically precise style.
The career of Floyd Mayweather Jr. has also been marked by controversy. Critics frequently accused him of adopting an overly defensive approach and carefully selecting opponents to preserve his undefeated record.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has also faced legal troubles, including serving time in prison for a domestic violence conviction.
Nevertheless, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s discipline, ring intelligence and extraordinary fitness earned widespread respect within the sport.
The last professional appearance of Floyd Mayweather Jr. came in 2017 against Conor McGregor, the UFC star turned boxer.
Since then, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has participated in several exhibitions, including a bout against John Gotti III in Mexico in August 2024.
Reports from Ring Magazine suggest that the exhibition between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mike Tyson could take place on April 25 in the Congo, though neither the date nor venue has been officially confirmed.
Mike Tyson, now 59, last fought in November 2024 in Texas, suffering a one-sided defeat to YouTuber-turned prizefighter Jake Paul in a widely watched event.
