Former APC National Chairman dismisses viral defection posters as fake, warns of legal action against those behind the alleged misinformation
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed reports alleging that he has defected to the New Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claim as false and insisting that he remains firmly committed to the ruling party.

Ganduje made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by his former Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, following the circulation of posters on social media suggesting that the former Kano State governor had joined the newly formed political platform.
The former APC national chairman described the posters as a deliberate campaign of misinformation aimed at misleading the public, creating confusion among party members and fuelling unnecessary political speculation.
According to the statement, Ganduje has remained unwavering in his loyalty to the APC and has never considered leaving the party, which he previously served as National Chairman.
Rejecting the claims, the former governor said he is not a politician who changes parties for personal gain or political expediency.
“I am not a nomadic politician or a vulture flying from one tree to another in pursuit of personal ambition or political convenience,” Ganduje said.
He maintained that suggestions linking him with the NDC were not only false but also lacked any political or logical basis.
The statement further described the APC as Nigeria’s largest and most formidable political party, adding that it continues to attract increasing support across the country under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Ganduje, the circulation of the posters was orchestrated by political opponents seeking to damage his reputation and sow discord within the ruling party.
He disclosed that individuals allegedly responsible for producing and distributing the fake materials had been identified and warned that legal action would be taken if they failed to withdraw the posters and stop further circulation.
“Those responsible for producing and circulating the fake posters have been identified. Unless they immediately withdraw the defamatory materials and cease further dissemination, appropriate legal action will be taken against them,” the statement said.
Ganduje also urged APC members, supporters and the general public to disregard the posters, insisting that they do not represent his political position or future plans.
The clarification comes amid heightened political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several politicians across the country weighing alliances and new political platforms.

While rumours of defections have become increasingly common in recent months, Ganduje’s latest statement underscores his intention to remain within the APC despite ongoing political developments.
