A Saudi official confirmed that the total number of arrivals has reached 1,518,153, surpassing expectations and slightly exceeding last year’s international participation levels despite geopolitical instability affecting air travel across parts of the Middle East.
The announcement was made by Saleh Al-Murabba during a press briefing on Friday, as pilgrims continued to enter the kingdom ahead of the official start of rituals on Monday.
The Hajj pilgrims Saudi Arabia 2026 movement has taken place against the backdrop of wider regional instability, including airspace disruptions and rising travel costs linked to tensions following reported military exchanges involving Iran and allied responses across the Gulf region.
Despite these challenges, Gulf carriers based in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain have restored much of their operational capacity after temporary flight suspensions and cancellations earlier in the year.
Saudi officials say pilgrim inflows are expected to increase further in the final days before the commencement of Hajj rituals, which begin with mass gatherings in Makkah and surrounding holy sites.
Last year, the total number of pilgrims reached 1,673,320, including more than 1.5 million international visitors, underscoring the continued global scale of the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
The Hajj remains one of the five pillars of Islam and is required once in a lifetime for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the journey.
