The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks as part of intensified security operations to flush out terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.

He directive was announced on Sunday, February 8, 2026, by Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications.
The closures affect parts of Kogi West Senatorial District and surrounding areas, including seven local government areas.
In Lokoja Local Government Area, markets and motor parks in Oshokoshoko, Jakura, Ogbagbon, Agbaja, Atsawa, Obajana, Apata, Abugi, Amomi, Ebee, and Budon are affected. Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, Mopamuro, and Ijumu Local Government Areas also face similar temporary restrictions.
Fanwo explained that the measure aims to disrupt criminal logistics by restricting movement and cutting access to food, consumables, and other resources used by terrorists and their informants.
He said the operation is being coordinated with the Office of the National Security Adviser and state security agency heads.
“The temporary shutdown is intended to deny criminals freedom of movement and access to logistics during the security exercise,” Fanwo stated.
Kogi State has recently seen a resurgence of banditry. Last year, suspected attackers attempted to raid the Obajana operational base but were repelled by the Nigeria Police Force, resulting in multiple arrests.
