Labour Party chairman Julius Abure announced that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket will no longer be reserved for Peter Obi, opening it to all members.

Labour Party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, revealed that the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election is open to all members, no longer reserved for Peter Obi, its 2023 candidate.

Abure shared this decision during a press briefing after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, clarifying that the ticket for governor, held by Alex Otti in Abia State, is also open to other aspirants.

Abure dismissed claims of an automatic second-term ticket for Otti, stating that all positions from the presidency to local government are open to qualified Nigerians.

Additionally, he criticised an illegal meeting convened by Otti, stating that the governor had no constitutional power to convene such meetings without the approval of the party’s National Secretary and Chairman.

Abure emphasised that attempts to dissolve the National Working Committee and create divisions within the party, allegedly supported by Peter Obi and Governor Otti, were illegal and against Labour Party values.

He pledged to defend the mandate given to him and his team at the party’s 2024 convention, asserting that no governor could unseat the leadership.
