Nivea Black & White Roll-on recall

NAFDAC recalls Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on due to banned chemicals with reproductive and skin health risks. Batch No. 93529610.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding the recall of the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml, labelled as offering 48-hour protection.

This action follows an alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous non-food products, citing the potential dangers posed by a chemical in the product.

According to NAFDAC’s statement on Thursday, the affected product batch number is 93529610, manufactured in Germany and bearing the barcode number 42299882.

The recalled deodorant reportedly contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetics due to its risks, which include potential reproductive harm, health risks to unborn children, and the possibility of skin irritation or burns upon use.

NAFDAC advised all importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant within the supply chain to prevent further importation, sale, or use of this specific Nivea Roll-on batch.

It also instructed individuals possessing this batch to halt any usage and turn in the stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Healthcare providers and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse reactions related to the use of this or other regulated products to NAFDAC.

Reporting can be done via email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, through the e-reporting portal at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or by using the Med-safety app, available for both Android and iOS devices.

This health alert follows a series of recent safety notifications from NAFDAC aimed at safeguarding public health. The agency continues to stress the importance of awareness and responsibility within the supply chain to protect Nigerians from potentially harmful products.
