Nursing student murder suspect arrest sparks outrage after police detained man linked to the killing of Wendy Acheumba
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of Wendy Acheumba, the nursing student who was reportedly found dead with her throat slit inside her lodge on Friday.

Security sources identified the suspect as Onyema Okonkwo, a vulcaniser accused of allegedly raping and killing the student during the attack.
According to information gathered from sources familiar with the investigation, the suspect was apprehended following intensive police inquiries launched after the discovery of Wendy Acheumba’s lifeless body.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that the victim identified him and others involved in the attack before they allegedly assaulted her.
Security sources further disclosed that the suspect reportedly admitted that the attackers struck the student on the head with a stick before allegedly slitting her throat in an attempt to avoid identification and arrest.
The arrest was reportedly aided by members of the local youth body led by Chidiebere Iweajunwa, whose efforts residents described as instrumental in tracking down the suspect.
Community members and youth groups have continued to condemn the killing, describing the incident as brutal and heartbreaking.
Many residents also called for swift prosecution and justice for the deceased student, while renewed concerns have emerged over security around student hostels and off-campus residences.
