The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended 19 students for alleged examination misconduct following the approval of recommendations submitted by the institution’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The suspension was announced in a letter signed by the Director of Administration, Dr Citizen Ekpo, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha, and was made available on Tuesday.
Confirming the development, the university’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Effiong Eyo, said the decision followed approval by the university Senate after considering the disciplinary committee’s findings.
According to Eyo, the affected students have been suspended for one academic session, covering the 2025/2026 academic year, and are expected to resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session.
“The university has said the students would resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session,” he said.
The affected students are drawn from several faculties, including Administration, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts, Education, Allied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.
Others are from departments such as Nursing Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Science Laboratory Technology, Estate Management and Marketing.
The university has directed all deans, heads of departments and relevant administrative units to enforce the suspension and ensure full compliance with the directive.
