Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, is facing legal action from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of corruption including the diversion of more than N80 billion.
This happened only a few days after Mr. Bello’s eight-year term came to an end and he turned over power to Usman Ododo on January 27.

The anti-graft agency chose not to initiate a new case but instead amended existing charges against individuals accused of misappropriating Kogi State funds. Mr Bello was added as a co-defendant alongside his nephew and an associate, with additional counts appended to the charges.
In the amended case, Mr Bello stands accused of personally converting a staggering sum of N80.2 billion, belonging to the Kogi State Government, for his personal use. Among the alleged co-conspirators, Abdulsalami Hud, identified as the Kogi State Government House Cashier, is reported to be at large.
