In a bid to promote a cleaner and greener Lagos, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a set of directives aimed at curbing environmental degradation.

Through his official X handle, Wahab outlined five key actions for residents to adhere to, emphasizing the collective responsibility for a cleaner environment.

Firstly, Wahab urged motorists not to litter roads by throwing dirt from their vehicles. He emphasized the importance of keeping roads clean and free from debris, which not only improves aesthetics but also prevents environmental pollution.

Additionally, he discouraged the habit of dropping waste by the roadside or on medians, stressing the need for proper waste disposal methods. Wahab highlighted the adverse effects of littering on public health and the environment, urging citizens to use designated waste bins.

Furthermore, Wahab emphasized the importance of keeping drains and gutters free from trash, as clogged drainage systems contribute to flooding and water pollution. He called on residents to refrain from dumping waste in these channels, which are crucial for water flow during heavy rainfall.

In a move to enhance pedestrian safety and traffic flow, Wahab reminded residents to utilize pedestrian bridges when crossing major roads. This measure aims to reduce accidents and streamline traffic, contributing to overall road safety.

Lastly, Wahab urged citizens to report any environmental issues or infractions to the appropriate authorities promptly. By reporting problems such as illegal dumping, pollution, or blocked drains, residents can play an active role in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.

The campaign, tagged #CleanerLagos #GreenerLagos, emphasizes individual responsibility in achieving a cleaner and more environmentally friendly city. Wahab’s call to action underscores the importance of collective efforts in preserving Lagos’ natural beauty and ensuring a healthier future for all residents.
