[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a significant move aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s global image, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has announced the appointment of renowned media mogul Dr. John Momoh, OON, as the inaugural Chairman of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG)’s Body of Advisers.

The esteemed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Media Group was officially given this prestigious position during the 2025 Nigerian Public Relations Week held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Further strengthening the NRMG’s leadership team, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, was appointed Vice Chairman, and Mohammed Kudu Abubakar as Secretary.
Dr. Momoh’s appointment is a testament to his decades-long commitment to ethical journalism, media excellence, and reputation stewardship, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Upon accepting the pivotal role, he underscored the critical importance of collective efforts in repositioning Nigeria’s reputation.

He specifically urged Nigerians to refrain from undermining the country’s image with negative commentary, particularly on social media.
“Every negative post, every careless comment, every harsh generalisation especially when amplified globally further erodes the very image we all hope to improve,” he cautioned.
Dr. Momoh stressed the importance of responsible social media usage, advocating for the amplification of positive narratives and the active promotion of national initiatives.
He stated, “Let our digital footprints reflect a sense of duty to our nation, even as we hold it to higher standards. A reputation is a collective asset we must each do our part to protect it.”
Furthermore, he emphasised the crucial need for leaders to exemplify transparency, accountability, and integrity.
“We cannot rebuild trust in Nigeria’s image if those entrusted with public office do not live up to the responsibilities of service.
