Open letter to governor Dapo Abiodun : A dishonour to Senator Senator Gbenga Daniel is a slap to Remo-Ijebu unity

Ijebu Remo protest exclusion of Gbenga Daniel from Remo bye-election team, calling the move a betrayal of Remo leadership and political equity

We, the Ijebu/Remo Unity Group, write to express our deep disappointment and collective outrage over the recently published list of the Remo Federal Constituency Bye-Elections Sub-Committees.

Most disturbing is the shocking exclusion of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel  former Governor of Ogun State and the sitting Senator representing Ogun East  from a process that directly affects his constituency and where his political influence remains unmatched.

Your Excellency, this is more than a political oversight. It is a calculated affront to a man who has made profound and lasting contributions to Ogun State. Otunba Daniel is not just a leader; he is an institution whose capacity,

reach, and legacy continue to shape the political terrain of Ogun East and beyond. To sideline such a figure in a campaign that directly concerns Remo land is both strategically unsound and morally questionable.

Adding insult to injury is the composition of the campaign leadership, which has further deepened the sense of alienation among the Remo people.

Despite the campaign being for a Remo Federal Constituency seat, no Remo indigene was considered worthy enough to serve as Chairman or Director-General of the campaign. Instead:

Chief Yemi Sanusi from Egba was named Campaign Chairman;

Senator Lekan Mustapha, also Ijebu-Igbo, was named Deputy Chairman;

Hon. Igwe Adelani, another Egba son, was appointed Director-General of the campaign.

The highest-ranking Remo person on the list is Hon. Ola Oresanya, who was only assigned the role of Deputy Director-General.

This structure blatantly marginalizes the Remo bloc and leaves the impression that there are no capable, competent, and trusted sons of Remo worthy of leading their own campaign  a notion we reject in its entirety.

Equally troubling is the inclusion of political figures widely regarded as dead woods  individuals discarded by their former parties, who have now returned cap-in-hand seeking rehabilitation.

Their appointment into critical campaign positions  while proven leaders like Senator Gbenga Daniel are ignored  is a sad commentary on how rudderless, colorless, and visionless this administration has become.

One is left to wonder what electoral magic a Sikirulai and other political outsiders in Ogun East can conjure for the party, when the proven structure under OGD’s leadership  the only real Midas touch  is deliberately pushed aside.

Your Excellency, this campaign is not a personal venture. It is about securing victory for our party and preserving the political dignity of the Remo nation.

That cannot be achieved through exclusion, disrespect, and short-sighted politics.

We therefore demand an urgent restructuring of the campaign committees to reflect equity, competence, and proper representation  especially of the Remo people and of credible leaders like Senator Gbenga Daniel.

Anything less than this would be a deliberate provocation, a betrayal of trust, and a stain on your legacy as Governor.

History has its eyes on all of us. It will judge harshly those who sacrifice unity for self-interest, and those who undermine proven leadership in pursuit of petty power plays.
