CAC Accepts Fatoyinbo Apology

CAC Accepts Fatoyinbo Apology after his remarks on Apostle Babalola sparked outrage, commending his humility and willingness to reconcile

CAC Accepts Fatoyinbo Apology after his controversial remarks about the church’s late founder, Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, stirred public outrage and sparked heated debate on social media.

Fatoyinbo, Global Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), had said in a sermon that while Babalola was “anointed,” he “had no money” and “died poor,” even questioning the whereabouts of his children.

His comments drew swift condemnation, with the Christ Apostolic Church describing them as biblically flawed and insensitive.

In a strongly worded statement, CAC’s Director of Publicity, Pastor Aderinsoye Alawode, stressed that equating ministerial success with material wealth was misleading.

He cited Luke 12:15, warning against covetousness and affirming that Apostle Babalola’s legacy was rooted in service to God and humanity, not material possessions.

Apostle Babalola’s first daughter, Deaconess Eunice Ogini, also rejected Fatoyinbo’s claim, insisting that her father left behind values, service, and children who continue to thrive.

She clarified that both she and her sister were blessed, lived comfortably, and remained dedicated to his spiritual legacy.

Following the backlash, Fatoyinbo issued a public apology to the CAC and Babalola’s family. He clarified that he never intended to speak ill of the Apostle’s children and emphasised that COZA was “a place of honour.”

His statement acknowledged that if his words had caused hurt, he sincerely regretted them.

In response, Pastor Alawode confirmed that the church had accepted Fatoyinbo’s apology in good faith.

“He realised that the statement he made evoked some feelings in some people, and he took steps to correct himself. That is what is needed; it means he has shown remorse,” he said.

Alawode explained that the CAC’s aim was not to accuse Fatoyinbo of malice but to correct misconceptions his remarks created.

He affirmed that Apostle Babalola’s children are alive, accomplished, and respected leaders in their own right.
