Federal pensioners threaten a nationwide naked protest on Dec. 8 to demand unpaid pension increment arrears and palliative allowances

The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened a nationwide naked protest to demand payment of outstanding pension increment arrears and palliative allowances.

The coalition’s National Chairman, Mr Mukaila Ogunbote, announced the plan in a statement on Friday in Lagos. Ogunbote also chairs the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NIPOST Chapter.

He said the protest would take place on December 8 unless the Federal Government paid arrears of N32,000 for pension increments and N25,000 for palliative allowances approved in 2023.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General are not taking us seriously, so all pensioners must come out en masse to fight this injustice,” Mr Ogunbote said.

The protest will be staged in Abuja, Lagos, and other states, specifically at the offices of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate and in front of Nigeria Television Authority stations.

Mr Ogunbote urged all chairmen and secretaries of organisations affiliated with the coalition to mobilise their members.

“We must show the wound that our clothes are covering,” he said.

He added that the protest would continue until pensioners receive payment alerts for the six-month arrears.

Pensioners unable to return home afterward were advised to bring mats.

“All pensioners must come out and fight for their rights,” he said.
