The US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate in Lagos will close on March 19–20, 2026, in observance of Eid-el-Fitr, following Nigeria’s public holiday declaration
The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will close on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, in observance of the Eid-el-Fitr holiday.

The announcement was made on the mission’s official X handle on Wednesday, wishing friends and families in Nigeria and around the world a happy Eid-el-Fitr.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, in observance of the Eid-el-Fitr holiday.
Happy Eid-el-Fitr to all our friends and families in Nigeria and around the world who celebrate,” the statement read.
The closures coincide with the Federal Government’s declaration of March 19 and 20 as public holidays to mark the end of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Residents and visitors are advised to plan accordingly, as both offices will remain fully closed during the two-day holiday.
