Calvin Bassey Nigeria Draw Poland: Defender says Super Eagles should have won after 2-2 friendly draw against Poland in Warsaw

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed disappointment after Nigeria were held to a 2-2 draw by Poland in an international friendly on Wednesday, insisting the West African side should have secured victory in a match decided by late goals in both halves.

Calvin Bassey, speaking after the encounter in Warsaw, said Nigeria allowed control of the game to slip away at crucial moments despite taking the lead twice during the contest.

Nigeria opened the scoring through Terem Moffi before Kacper Potulski restored parity late in the first half.

Super Eagles regained the advantage in the second half courtesy of Paul Onuachu, only for Poland to equalise deep into stoppage time through a stunning strike from Przemysław Wiśniewski.

Calvin Bassey Nigeria Draw Poland reaction highlighted Nigeria’s frustration at conceding late goals that ultimately denied them a win in a tightly contested encounter.

“We should have got the win. Two late goals in both halves. It shows there was something we could adjust,” Calvin Bassey said after the match.

The defender also pointed to squad integration challenges, noting that several players arrived at different times ahead of the fixture, which affected cohesion and rhythm on the pitch.

“A lot of us had different arrival times. A few of us joined camp yesterday, so it is good to get some minutes in the legs,” he added.

Despite the disappointment, the match offered valuable minutes for the Super Eagles under Eric Chelle as the team continues preparations and squad adjustments ahead of future international commitments.

The draw leaves Nigeria with positives to build on but also clear defensive lessons to address, particularly in managing late-game concentration and game control.
