The university’s Public Relations Officer, Harrison Madubueze, disclosed the decision in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka.

According to Madubueze, the dismissals were approved during the 122nd meeting of the university’s Governing Council held on June 12.

Those affected include C.C. Nwabachili, a professor and immediate past dean of the Faculty of Law, and Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.

Others dismissed are I.H. Iheukwumere and Emeka Nwabunnia, both from the Department of Microbiology in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Uli Campus.

Also affected by the disciplinary action is Ifeoma Kakulu, a principal assistant registrar who served as the Faculty of Law examination officer in the Examinations Unit when the alleged offences were committed.

Madubueze said the individuals were found culpable of offences ranging from sexual abuse and harassment to intimidation, extortion and ethical misconduct following internal disciplinary processes.

The university spokesman noted that the COOU Staff Dismissal decision reflected the institution’s determination to uphold professional ethics and accountability across its academic and administrative structures.

He said the Governing Council reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and preserving the integrity of the institution.

“The council reaffirmed its stance on discipline and integrity, warning that actions tarnishing the university’s reputation would face severe consequences,” Madubueze stated.

According to him, the council also pledged to sustain a safe, accountable and progressive learning environment in line with the institution’s vision of becoming a university prepared for future challenges and opportunities.

The university maintained that the disciplinary measures were necessary to protect public confidence in its academic and administrative systems.
