Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, has died after being attacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Lagos.
Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, was reportedly attacked on Sunday night while returning from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi, with the assailants intercepting his vehicle around the Ikorodu Road axis.

The incident occurred when gunmen allegedly opened fire on his vehicle, leaving several bullet holes on the windscreen and other parts of the car.
Images and videos circulating online after the attack showed the damaged white vehicle with visible signs of the shooting.
Initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack after sustaining gunshot injuries. However, later reports confirmed that the NURTW official died from the injuries he suffered.
The death has triggered mourning within the Lagos transport union community, with colleagues describing Ajiboye as a committed union member and trusted associate.
Lagos NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, expressed sadness over the loss, describing Ajiboye as a loyal friend and dedicated member of the union.
In a tribute shared on Facebook, Sego said Ajiboye’s death was difficult to accept and praised his commitment to the union and their political structure.
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally,” he wrote.
Sego described Ajiboye as more than a colleague, saying he was a trusted friend and an important figure within TeamSego and SegoNation.
“Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council, was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation,” he said.
He also offered condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends and members of the NURTW, praying for strength and comfort during the period of grief.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and the identities of the attackers have not been disclosed.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine the motive behind the killing.

Ajiboye’s death adds to growing concerns over violent attacks targeting individuals in various communities, with calls often made for improved security measures and swift investigations into such incidents.
