Reuben Abati says ADC failed to convert campaign efforts into success in FCT polls, predicts increased litigation ahead of 2027 general elections
Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has said the African Democratic Congress failed to translate its campaign efforts into electoral success in the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

Abati made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, stating that the outcome of the Abuja polls suggests that the contests have largely been decided and that political parties must reassess their strategies ahead of future elections.
According to him, while the All Progressives Congress secured victories in two by-elections in Kano State, indicating that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has shown political strength, the broader electoral landscape points to possible legal battles in 2027.
He noted that some candidates have already indicated intentions to challenge results in court, predicting that the 2027 general elections could witness widespread litigation.
Abati also expressed scepticism that recent electoral reforms would significantly curb malpractice, reduce the influence of money, or eliminate irregularities in future polls.

“It looks like in Abuja the vote has been won and lost… We just hope that all the stakeholders, including the ADC that put up shows in Abuja and got nothing will learn from this and all the parties will restrategise,” Abati said.
