The governor made the disclosure at the combined eighth, ninth and 10th convocation ceremony of Sa’adu Zungur University in Gadau, where he emphasised the central role of education in driving sustainable development.
Mohammed said the Bauchi education funding reflects a consistent policy direction, noting that more than 15 per cent of the state’s annual budgets has been devoted to the sector.
He revealed that N58.02 billion has been earmarked for higher education, including N40.6 billion for capital projects such as classrooms, hostels, laboratories, ICT centres, and staff quarters.
The governor outlined ongoing interventions at the university, including the construction of 20 classrooms, expansion of student accommodation at Gadau and Yuli campuses, and improvements to security infrastructure.
He also highlighted measures aimed at strengthening academic operations, such as regular salary payments, increased institutional funding, scholarship programmes, reduced registration fees, and respect for university autonomy.
In a firm warning, Mohammed cautioned against practices that undermine academic integrity, including drug abuse and sexual harassment, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.
“Universities must remain safe spaces for learning, dignity and growth,” he said.
The governor commended the institution’s management and staff for their dedication, noting that the university continues to produce graduates contributing meaningfully to the workforce.
He added that the administration’s broader goal is to build a self-reliant state driven by skilled manpower capable of competing globally.
