Ikeja Electric power drop linked to gas supply crisis, reducing generation and affecting electricity distribution nationwide
Ikeja Electric has warned of a reduction in electricity supply, attributing the development to a nationwide decline in power generation caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the company said the situation has significantly reduced the volume of energy available on the national grid, affecting allocations to distribution companies across the country.
The Ikeja Electric power drop, according to the company, stems from constraints in gas supply, a critical input for Nigeria’s thermal power generation infrastructure.
“This has significantly reduced the energy available on the national grid and, consequently, the allocation to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies,” the notice stated.
The company acknowledged the impact of the disruption on customers, noting that the reduced supply has led to noticeable outages and lower distribution capacity in its coverage areas.
It appealed for patience, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused by the situation.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding during this period,” the company said.
Despite the constraints, Ikeja Electric assured customers of its commitment to equitable distribution of the available electricity, emphasising efforts to manage supply efficiently.
Energy analysts say the development underscores Nigeria’s continued vulnerability to gas supply challenges, which remain a major constraint on stable power generation and distribution.
