LASU Student Armed Robbery Death confirmed as Otabor Boluwatife Joseph dies after a violent attack in Iba, Lagos
Otabor Boluwatife Joseph, a 200-level student of History and International Studies at Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria, died from injuries sustained during an armed robbery attack in the Iba area of the state, following a violent incident that occurred off campus on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Lagos State University confirmed the tragic development in an official statement issued by its management, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and describing the incident as a devastating blow to the university community.
LASU student killed in robbery case has since drawn widespread sympathy from students, staff, and members of the public.
According to the university, Otabor Boluwatife Joseph was attacked alongside friends by armed robbers in the Iba area, leaving him critically injured.
He was subsequently hospitalised and placed under medical care, with the institution closely monitoring his condition in collaboration with medical personnel at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, extended condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss as painful and urging strength for those affected.
The university also confirmed that it had maintained communication with the family and relevant security agencies throughout the period of treatment.
Following confirmation of his passing, university officials engaged with law enforcement authorities and hospital representatives, while reaffirming their commitment to supporting ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The institution stated that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the violent incident are brought to justice.
