IPOB family says Nnamdi Kanu predicted his Sokoto imprisonment as a step toward Biafra, vowing to continue the struggle until his release
The family of jailed Nnamdi Kanu has reiterated that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader predicted his imprisonment in Sokoto more than eight years ago as a precursor to the eventual achievement of Biafra.

Speaking during a burial memorial for their late parents on February 14 at the family compound in Afaraukwu, Prince Emma, Kanu’s younger brother and family spokesman, said the family remains steadfast in its support.
“Mazi Kanu predicted many years ago that any day he will get to Sokoto, we should know that the achievement of Biafra has come,” Emma said. He described his brother as a man of peace, emphasising that dialogue—not violence—is Kanu’s guiding principle. “Until he comes out from prison, the family will not rest,” he added.
The memorial marked the sixth anniversary of the deaths of Kanu’s parents, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and Ugoeze Kanu, who passed away following the trauma of an armed invasion of Kanu’s residence under Operation Python Dance in 2017. Emma highlighted that their parents’ sacrifices underpin the family’s commitment to Biafra.
At the graveside, the family prayed that divine forces and the elements hold accountable all parties involved in Kanu’s incarceration. Emma said, “Those who conspired against this family, against Nnamdi Kanu, against Biafra, heaven and earth will be against you.” He also poured libation in honour of his parents, pledging to continue the struggle from all angles.
Several notable figures from the Biafran movement attended the memorial, including Col Vincent Okey, Uzoamaka Ejezie, Cohen David Sunday Onuoha, Ihediohanma Nwokojie, and Elder Where Agonsi Onwu, who urged continued dedication to the cause and called for Kanu’s unconditional release.
Evangelist Nnamdi Obike of the Jehovah Elohim Evangelical Ministry also affirmed the family’s belief in Kanu’s prophecy, stating, “Nnamdi Kanu years ago prophesied that the struggle will end in Sokoto and now, he is in Sokoto. Everything he said has happened. Kanu is coming out this year and he is coming out with something.”

The event underscored the IPOB family’s resolve to uphold the movement’s objectives and maintain pressure for the release of their leader while honouring the memory of those who sacrificed for the cause.
